Her company’s disability inclusion efforts are focused on customers, as well as its employees, according to Lisa Dickson, VP of sales strategy and enablement, Experian.
WorkingNation sat down with Dickson at 2022 Disability:IN Conference in Dallas.
Dickson – who has a hearing impairment – says employers are being more mindful about hiring people with disabilities. “There is more of an openness in general. I think the ESG policies that many companies are embracing – the social aspect of ESG – people are demanding it, candidates are demanding it, customers are demanding it. Companies really have to think about this. In my career, it is absolutely something that people talk about now. It was not talked about before. It usually just takes that one person to talk about it.”
She also points out that her disability is only part of who she is. “I would consider myself a mom, a female. I have a disability. Those are things that define who I am, but there are a lot of other areas that people might define themselves, as well.”
Regarding consumers, Dickson says it’s important to consider financial inclusion and empowerment. “Experian partners quite a bit with many of the organizations that are focused on disability inclusion. We partner mainly for the research and the insights that these organizations can bring to help us understand the communities that we serve.”
“We really need to understand the perspectives and the insights from the disability community,” says Dickson.
