“In my job, I drive disability inclusion and access enterprise wide. I work with different stakeholders all throughout the company,” says Claudia Gordon, senior accessibility strategy partner, T-Mobile.
“I work with them to promote a more inclusive culture and a more accessible work environment for all employees with disabilities, as well as all of our customers,” she explains.
WorkingNation sat down with Gordon at 2022 Disability:IN Conference in Dallas.
Gordon explains that T-Mobile has a number of initiatives to be an inclusive and accessible company. “We’ve come a long way, but there still is more work that needs to be done. Our learning and development team, in particular, focuses on things like training content and also accessibility of the training. For example, if there’s a video, is it captioned? We want to make sure that all of the training that’s provided is fully accessible.”
She continues, “Most recently, there’s a lot more focus on adding representation, as well. Authentic representation of individuals with disabilities. They’re in our marketing materials, images that are used in our training, etc., because authentic representation really matters.”
Speaking from her personal perspective, Gordon says, “My identity – I’m black, I’m deaf, I’m a woman, I’m an immigrant.”
She says, “I have faced in the past and I still face multiple forms of discrimination, oppression, microaggressions, based on intersectional identities. I think it’s important for anyone listening to this interview, do not put people in a box.”
