I described some legitimate reasons why you may NOT want to pursue the OPT right after completing your program. Some of these reasons include
1. You have no interest or a weak interest in working in the US after your graduation
2. You do not want to pay for the OPT application fee, as it’s quite expensive
3. You do not want to work in a field of study for which you obtained a degree
4. You do not want to remain in the US on an F1 status
And of course, on the flip side, here are some great reasons to apply for the Post-Completion OPT
1. You have a strong desire to study in the US. As a matter of fact, that’s the reason you chose to come to the US
2. You have a strong intention of working in the US long term after your graduation
3. You intend to start your own business related to the program of study you complete in the US
4. You intend to apply for the 24 month STEM OPT extension if you meet the eligibility requirement
