My name is Ryan Cook. I am an educational assistant here at WCTC. I provide back up for some of the administrative staff. I also provide computer assistance for those who are not as experienced in technology. And I do some data analysis to get some demographics on our clients. And even a little bit of systems analysis to try to make my job and maybe some other people's jobs a little bit easier. One of the things is, I check prerequisites for people who want to get an internship and they need to complete certain classes beforehand. And the process of checking those courses requires a lot of steps and so I've been trying to find ways to make that process easier or quicker, just take less time, because at the beginning of semesters and a little bit sometimes near the end, there's a giant influx of people who are like, oh I need to do an internship. And I need to get all these people processed, and it adds up after awhile. Depending on the time of the semester I could be checking mid-term status or final status of those students who want to do internships to make sure they're passing the courses that they're supposed to be passing. If people are busy I could be helping covering one of our desks and doing some scheduling for some people or helping out our front desk and making sure people get where they're trying to get. Or helping people in our computer lab with formatting on their resumes or helping them fill out a job application online. You know it could be any combination of all that. Or maybe I need to help one of our coworkers figure out something with something on their computer they're having issues with. And I think that's how it is with a lot of positions in IT. No matter what, you kind of end up always doing a little bit of troubleshooting or support work whether or not that's actually the focus of the full job is. That depends on where you're working.
