My name is Lexi Alvarado, and I'm an admissions counselor here at the University of Toledo. So my job is to go to area high schools, college fairs, recruit students, tell students about the University of Toledo, and make sure that they have all of the information that they need to be equipped to go through that application process and eventually make it to the university. Just today, actually I had three high school visits that I went to. I was in some area high schools about an hour away, near the Finlay area. In three different high schools where I went in, I talked to, my last one, I talked to like, I think 40 juniors and seniors, and gave them a presentation about The University of Toledo. Got to pass out some information, things like that. And that's something that I do, you know, every day. But some other things you know, that I do that are not my daily tasks are, we do have a state organization that I'm involved in as well, that I have responsibilities in on committees, planning events, planning conferences for other admissions counselors, things like that. It definitely takes a lot of work. (laughs) It even, you know, as far back as marketing. Marketing, we need to help them create our materials for the year with all the new and updated information each year. I take marketing's materials, I put packets together of all of the marketing information that we have. I take that and then I do have to come up with it. Each admissions counselor typically has a different presentation, depending on, you know, who they're talking to, things like that. But for me, I just use the packet of information and I go through each and every piece. So I go through the financial aid piece. I go through, we have a Rocky and a Roxy cutout that has some facts on the back. I go through our preview book that has pretty general information about the university, and then I go through our view book, which has more detailed information about the university for each student. Hours in the fall are pretty crazy. (laughs) I have, I usually clock more hours in the fall, September, October, in the beginning of November, than I do all spring. (laughs) It gets pretty crazy, but I do travel about every day. Typically Monday through Friday I'm on the road. Sometimes just between eight and five, sometimes only half the day, but some days it's from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM depending on the day. The other day, I think I left my house at 6:40 in the morning to get to a high school on time, so. (laughs)
