Staff Accountant
The Phillips Organization – a local CPA and Consulting Firm in Canton, Ohio with consistent growth is seeking an entry level accountant to learn and grow a long-term career in our public accounting firm. The ideal individual will possess the following and/or has a plan to acquire what is needed to drive success:
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in accounting required
- CPA or CPA candidate eligible to sit for the CPA exam per state requirements.
- General knowledge of accounting principles and reporting of financial data.
- Willingness to learn new technologies.
- Proficient with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products.
- Able to multi-task, highly organized and able to manage due dates
- Excellent communication skill – written and oral
- Desire to learn and grow every day

Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, assemble, and prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and other types of tax returns.
- Manage payroll, which involves calculating wages, withholding taxes, and ensuring timely and accurate payments to employees and tax agencies.
- Categorize transactions into appropriate accounts (assets, liabilities, expenses, and income).
- Reconciling bank and credit card statements to ensure internal records match external documentation.
- Recording depreciation and maintaining asset schedules.
- Preparing Sales/ Use Tax and other state and local tax returns.
- Review, adjust, and maintain client accounting systems using QuickBooks and various other accounting software.
- Prepare financial statements and other assurance services.
- Gains experience, exposure, and knowledge of procedures, workpapers and systems.
- Supports multiple client engagements on time and within budget, identifying issues and communicating progress.
- Participate in client meetings as applicable
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive information as per company policies and guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
- Expands industry knowledge, through greater exposure to peers, clients, and formal training opportunities.
- Completes research and special projects as needed.
- Communicates effectively with clients and other team members on a regular basis.
Work Schedule:
- Entry level position can expect to work Monday through Friday 40 hours per week. Saturdays and some evenings with paid overtime required during tax filing season.
- We offer flexible working hours; however, our primary operating days are Monday to Friday. Staff are expected to be available during our established core business hours
- Flexible work schedule and half days on Fridays in the off season.
