School Site Coordinator: Full-Service Community Schools Grant Program
Job Summary:
The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, (PRAA), a 25-year-old arts and music nonprofit organization in Chicago, seeks a School Site Coordinator for its Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) Program, entitled Somos Uno / We are One Project. This position will lead the program in an elementary school Full-Service Community School model, funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education, and will operate at a Chicago Public School site providing a wide array of services to students, teachers, administrators, parents / families, and community members with innovative services to create and sustain a vibrant hub of community engagement in teaching and learning. The School Site Coordinator will work under the direction of FSCS Program Director of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance and will be responsible for implementing services and activities, along with partner organizations, to meet the needs of the school communities to provide: 1) high quality integrated expanded and enriched learning time programs and strategies; (2) family and community engagement and supports; and (3) high quality early childhood education program; (4) social, health, nutrition, and mental health services and supports, and (5) support for students’ transition to all grade levels.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of three years of experience in successful community education program.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field preferred.
3. Experience working with-in collaborative processes and structures required.
4. Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
5. Demonstrable sensitivity and commitment to the needs of students, parents, principals, teachers, and community members in Chicago Public Schools serving low-income, limited English, Latinx and African American communities, required.
6. Bilingual (English & Spanish) and understanding of Latinx culture required if working in a predominant Latinx school community.
7. Understanding of African American culture required if working in a predominant African American school community.
8. Understand the dynamics of working collaboratively with Chicago Public School system and structures.
9. Have a sensitivity and/or knowledge of Latino and African American music, arts, and theater initiatives.
10. Understand and believe in the philosophy of arts integration and social emotional learning into the classroom.
Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leads the implementation of the FSCS grant in the school daily.
2. Works collaboratively with the school leadership, instructors, and staff to deliver funded goals and objectives, and meets with Project Director regularly to review and assess progress toward funded goals.
3. Oversees and directs all program staff working in the school such as tutors, parent advocates, early childhood educators, teaching artists, and others.
4. Coordinates the work of partner agencies in the schools.
5. Communicates effectively with all school staff and has a positive working relationships within the school.
6. Leads grant recruitment initiatives in the school, together with the FSCS staff, and in-conjunction with the school leadership, staff, and instructors.
7. Supports the creation of a yearly comprehensive plan for the program at the partner school.
8. Ensures that all documentation, data, and reports are up to date at the school for program outcome reports and evaluation purposes.
9. Facilitates program staff meetings.
10. Meets regularly with Project Director to ensure program goals and objectives are being met.
11. Attends all meetings and conferences as designated by the funder and the FSCS director.
12. Attends all meetings and events sponsored by the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance.
