Community Engagement Coordinator: Puerto Rican Arts Alliance Job Summary:
Join the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA), a 25-year-old arts and music nonprofit based in Chicago, as a community engagement coordinator for the Latin Music Project / Somos Uno / We are One Project. In partnership with various Chicago Public Schools founded by the US Department of Education, you will drive the implementation of a vibrant Full-Service Community School (FSCS) model. Your role involves fostering community engagement, supporting families, and coordinating various services to create an enriched learning environment. As the PRAA community development coordinator, you will connect with schools, external partners, and community entities to enhance recruitment efforts and identify valuable school community partnerships.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead the identification and recruitment of schools for the Latin Music Project / FSCS program.
2. Collaborate with PRAA staff to achieve funded objectives, regularly assessing progress.
3. Assist program staff, including tutors, parent advocates, early childhood educators, and teaching artists, providing support and guidance.
4. Identify, cultivate, and coordinate relationships with partner agencies within the school and community seeing to maximize community resources.
5. Establish positive working relationships and effective communication with school staff.
6. Spearhead recruitment initiatives alongside FSCS staff, school leadership, and instructors to build a robust team.
7. Assist in developing a comprehensive annual program plan for the partner school, ensuring alignment with recruitment and community engagement goals.
8. Maintain accurate documentation, data, and reports for program evaluation and outcomes.
9. Lead the coordination of community base meetings to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
10. Regularly meet with the Project Director to ensure alignment with program goals.
11. Attend designated meetings and conferences with funders and FSCS director.
12. Participate in events and gatherings hosted by the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance.
Qualifications:
• At least three years successful experience in community education programs, focusing on recruitment and partnership development.
• Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field.
• Proficiency in collaborative processes and structures.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse, low-income, limited English, Latinx, and African American communities within Chicago Public Schools.
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) required for working in Latinx school communities.
• Understanding of African American culture required for working in a relevant school community.
• Familiarity with Chicago Public School systems and structures.
• Appreciation for Puerto Rican/Latino and African American music, arts, and theater initiatives.
• Belief in arts integration and social-emotional learning within the classroom.
