About Judi’s House/JAG Institute:
Judi’s House/JAG Institute (JH/JAG) is a community-based, nonprofit bereavement center for children and families located in Denver, Colorado. The vision of Judi’s House is that no child should be alone in grief. To achieve this vision, Judi’s House provides comprehensive, innovative services for bereaved youth and families at Judi’s House, as well as in school- and community-based bereavement groups throughout Metro-Denver and beyond.
Judi’s House is also committed to contributing scholarly knowledge about the diverse needs of the bereaved and the impact of grief support services. JAG Institute, a center of learning at Judi’s House, focuses on expanding the evaluation, research, training, and technology initiatives necessary to successfully disseminate trauma-informed bereavement programs. The Comprehensive Grief Care Model that we use at Judi’s House combines evaluation, research, clinical insight, and client feedback to continually inform the work that is done by each department. This effort provides essential information to enable data-driven decisions that help fulfill the mission of JH/JAG Institute.
There is little research in the field of childhood bereavement, and what exists has limitations. One of the main goals of JAG Institute is to gather and disseminate evaluation and research findings to advance the field and improve the quality of care for grieving children and families. Towards this goal, JH/JAG Institute created the Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model (CBEM) and the Childhood Bereavement Changemaker Initiative. The CBEM is the first and only quantitative statistical model that uses publicly available, national, state, and county level data, to approximate current and projected childhood bereavement prevalence rates. The Childhood Bereavement Changemaker (CBC) initiative was launched in 2019 to empower grief agencies to conduct program evaluation. Through a series of training workshops and custom technical assistance, JH/JAG works cohorts of Changemaker organizations to grow their capacity for data collection and program evaluation through a 12-month process designed to address data and evaluation needs big and small.
In addition to these two national initiatives, JH/JAG develops custom local reports to inform grief centers’ needs assessment efforts including CBEM Local Reports, Service Maps (e.g., heat maps of client locations relative to service centers), and Community Demographic Profiles.
