Description
Site-based substitutes are responsible for instructing students in an elementary, middle, or high school setting serving special education, English as a Second Language, advanced academics, and resource classes to include Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, World Language, and/or other content area classes. Site-based substitutes assume responsibility for all aspects of classroom instruction, assessments, and behavior management on a short-term or long-term basis. Implements teacher created lesson plans or works collaboratively with a team of educators to generate lesson plans, providing differentiated strategies to instruct students at all levels in all content areas. Site-Based substitutes will be assigned to one school and will be expected to report to that school daily.
Qualifications
A minimum of 30 college credits is required. An exception may be provided for applicants who do not have a minimum of 30 college credits. The exceptions are:
- Accepted into an accredited educational preparatory program within a college/university’s school of education
- Completed a high school teacher preparatory course, like Teachers for Tomorrow or Educators Rising
- Been employed as an Instructional Assistant for at least one school year at a K12 organization
- Has one full year of experience teaching preschool or in a school aged childcare program
- Has been employed as a classroom/student monitor for 1 year.
Must be able to understand, follow, and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; work effectively with children, young adults, faculty, and staff; and perform all required tasks, as assigned.
