As an Environmental Education Intern at Delaware State Parks, you will have the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the fields of environmental education and outdoor recreation through extensive hands-on experience and training. Principal duties of the position are to conduct educational and recreational programs such as kayaking, hiking, birding, public programs, school programs, special events, walk-by programs, and guided hikes featuring our Park’s many natural and historical resources. This internship provides nature-based interpretive experience, public speaking practice as well as leadership skills. The position includes working weekends and some evenings.
Interns will also participate in intern-wide professional development activities and experiential learning opportunities that may require them to be off-site or away from their placement. Each intern will complete a personalized “demonstration of learning” project. At the conclusion of the internship, all interns will present their projects during a poster session for peers and Delaware State Parks staff.
Job Duties:
- Work as part of a team to provide quality educational programs on the cultural and natural resources of Lums Pond.
- Assist with conservation efforts in the park, monitoring, tracking data and leading volunteers.
- Be a front-line representative of Delaware State Parks – greet nature center guests, table at events, and rove throughout campground and/or park
- Interact and create a safe and enjoyable environment for all park visitors
- Abide by all Delaware State Parks safety regulations
- Coordinate with all park staff for use of equipment, planning of programs, and working special events
- Assists with canoe/kayak trips and other recreational programs.
- Work as a team to keep nature center and all equipment clean and presentable, following all cleaning safety protocols
- May include live animal care and handling
- Other duties as assigned
- 37.5-hour Schedule Varies-— Evenings/Weekends/Holidays required
- Schedule: 37.5 hours per week April- November
- Schedule: 29.5 hours per week December – March

Condition of Hire:
