Role: Electrical Engineer
Location: San Diego, CA (On-site)
We are comma.ai. We’re building the Android of self-driving cars and already operate the second largest fleet after Tesla. We’re hiring electrical, hardware, and mechanical engineers to design and build products like the comma 3X. It’s fully built in-house—from bare PCBs to final fulfillment. The factory? Just down the stairs from engineering.
We don’t care where, or even if, you went to school. We don’t care if you have a traditional background. We’re just looking for people who can independently contribute to shipping openpilot. As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll work on all aspects of comma products. This role is hands-on and spans schematic design, debugging, field validation, and supporting production tooling.
Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype multi-layer PCBs
- Perform hardware validation and bring-up of new boards and revisions
- Debug board-level electrical issues using lab equipment and test frameworks
- Work with firmware and systems engineers to ensure proper functionality
- Support production workflows by improving testability and reliability of hardware
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of embedded electronics and power design
- Experience designing multi-layer PCBs
- Familiarity with hardware validation tools
- Ability to take a design from schematic to functioning product
- Experience with automotive electronics, manufacturing test systems, or design-for-EMC
