Maintains financial records and processes transaction documents. Performs one or more clerical accounting operations such as maintaining multiple account registers, ensuring transactions are accurate, consistent, and conform to procedures.

Position Specific Summary
The Senior Account Clerk position at the City of Tucson’s Business Services Department is responsible for managing financial transactions, travel payments, maintaining records, and ensuring the smooth operation of invoice processing for all City departments.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Account Clerk Supervisor. This position leads and instructs the daily operational work of account clerk personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides customer service by answering telephone inquiries, offering assistance and directing to the appropriate department. Responds to correspondence, contacts vendors and other service providers. Performs research to address and resolve questions or issues, serving as a liaison between internal and external customers. Tracks expenditures and account balances to identify discrepancies and provide up-to-date financial information for decision-making. Addresses and resolves financial inquiries or issues from customers, such as billing disputes or payment concerns.
- Assists with budget preparation and processes invoices for payment. Prepares journal entries, reconciling multiple accounts. Prepares and maintains purchase and change orders. Compiles data and prepares statistical reports. Prepares travel orders, maintains and calculates travel and mileage claims. Maintains and manages a small fund of cash for minor expenses (petty cash), prepares requisitions, and coordinates the process for requesting goods and services.
- Maintains and verifies the accuracy pf payroll time sheets, checks documentation and enters information into related systems. Monitors vacation and leave time, prints copies of related reports and submits for approval. Prints, sorts and distributes checks, including processing online checks. Calculates taxes and deductions and ensures funds are forwarded to the appropriate recipients.
- Orders supplies and equipment, securing the delivery of supplies. Logs inventory and processes work orders. Coordinates and requests building maintenance with other departments. Schedules appointments and maintains calendars. Troubleshoots computer systems, sorts and distributes mail. Follows up on delinquent accounts and performs data entry.
- Provides support and guidance to staff and other departments as needed. Serves as back-up front office in processing special handling checks. Trains personnel on standard processes and procedures.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Mostly office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
6 months post high school
Work Experience:
One (1) year of directly related experience
License:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Full Hourly Range: $16.50 – 28.46 USD
The Full Hourly Range reflects the City of Tucson’s pay range at the time of posting.
