- The GS-7 level works under the guidance and supervision of a supervisor or higher graded Forester. The incumbent will perform the duties at a reduced level of responsibility and/or difficulty.
- Collects data during field examination of forest stand and compiles the data to update inventory records in the appropriate automated data base.
- Conducts cruise, scale, and appraise timber and special forest products. Utilizes knowledge of decay and defect associated with fire, insect, and disease mortality.
- Deigns, prepares, and administers forest development projects including site preparation, reforestation, seedling protection, vegetation management, and stand conversion.
- Apply marking guidelines provided by the silvicultural prescription.
- Utilizes software programs required for cruising and appraising federal timber.
- Assists contract officials by negotiating with potential and/or existing contractors for revisions or modifications of existing contracts.
- Works on a team with other professional and scientific staff.
- Coordinates and collaborates with interest groups and other agencies to assure consideration of mutual interests and reductions of impacts
