Van Kirk Bros. Contracting is a heavy construction and site development general contractor, providing construction services within Nebraska and Northern Kansas. Responsibilities:
- Analyze drawings and specifications and assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner. This includes calling suppliers for pricing and contacting potential subcontractors for quotes.
- Understand contractual terms and conditions.
- Provide clear detailed quantity take-offs.
- Organize sub-contractors’ quotations, negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents and issue proper documented purchase orders.
- Complete Budgeting and Scheduling for projects and track same. Monitor progress, requisition change orders and identify any potential risks.
- Maintain relationships with sub-contractors and clients.
- Review contract documents and work with office personnel to prepare and handle documents.
- Collect shop drawings for suppliers and subcontractors and submit to engineer for approval and communicate with the suppliers and subcontractors if there are any revisions or changes made by the engineer. This will also include logging and tracking all submittals internally and following up as necessary to make sure they are all submitted and reviewed prior to commencement of project.
- Assist in ordering materials for a job and ensure that materials are delivered to the jobsite in a timely manner.
- Track all stored materials for project and work with office personnel in making sure those are accounted for on pay estimates to be submitted to the engineer.
- Attend pre-construction and progress meetings for projects as necessary as well as internal meetings with other estimators and project supervisors within the company.
- Coordinate locates for projects prior to commencement, as well as discontinue locates upon project completion.
- Gather information from on site supervisors monthly regarding what materials were used and what quantities were used on the project and work with other office personnel to make sure pay estimates can be submitted monthly to the engineer for payment.
- Ensure site personnel are provided with proper documentation related to the project.
- Work with and deal with concerns of field personnel, office personnel and other estimators and project supervisors.
- Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costing.
- Formulate cost break down from estimates and for project progress.
- Meet with potential clients to discuss options for proposed services.

- Basical construction knowledge of underground utility construction, mechanical joint fittings, HDPE pipe and fittings, sanitary sewer pipe and fitting, storm sewer pipe, RCP, HDPE, CMP pipe and fittings.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and operating levers or controls, climbing, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Regularly requires standing and bending over for extensive periods of time. Requires reaching, crawling, climbing, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting. Often requires lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling items weighing up to 50 lbs. Sometimes requires working at heights. Also requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, cold, noise, vibration, and other conditions common to a construction site. Contractual obligations may require irregular hours, out-of-town work, overnight stays, nights, and weekends.
