Title: Chemist Intern/Co-Op
Location: Freeport, Texas
Additional locations may include: Charleston, Tennessee; Plaquemine, Louisiana; St. Gabriel, Louisiana; McIntosh, Alabama; Niagara Falls, New York.
Housing Stipend Available: Spring Co-Op (January – May 2025), Summer (May – August), Fall (August – December).
Examples of Chemist Intern and Co-Op Daily Activities:
- Conducts daily routine and non-routine analytical testing of chemical products and reagents, including raw materials, in process and final product stages using a combination of wet chemistry and instrumental analytical techniques
- Prepares standardized lab reagents for lab and plant use
- Interprets data and makes or recommends adjustments based on findings
- Records data, observations and conclusions in spreadsheets and databases
- Assists in developing policies, procedures and standards, including preventative maintenance
- Works with analytical personnel to qualify and implement new instrumentation, assist in instrumentation troubleshooting
- Works on special projects under guidance of technical specialist/chemist
Position Specific Requirements:
- Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or science – related degree program. Preference given to students located within 50 miles of the assigned Olin location.
- Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale at all times throughout your time at Olin. An official transcript will be required each term. Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations
- Must have completed sophomore year prior to first assignment with Olin
- Ability to work full time (40 hours a week during normal business hours) either January – May 2025, May – August 2025 or August – December 2025. Not eligible for virtual work.
- Preference will be given to candidates with availability and desire to work a minimum of three (3) terms with no more than one of those terms occurring over the summer
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work/student visa
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
- A Valid US Driver’s license is required
