Intern will perform a wide range of activities and projects of varying levels of professional complexity within area of specialty. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide general administrative and/or clerical support as needed for the Department.
2. Interact directly with colleagues, clientele and/or other internal or external constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day operations.
3. Provide entry-level administrative or technical services in support of operating objectives of the department.
4. Receive guidance, training and mentoring from more senior professional staff.
5. Conduct research and prepare reports based on findings to include recommendations or alternative proposals for action.
6. Participate in the design, planning and implementation of on-going or special projects designed to develop professional skills and expertise.
7. Coordinate with other county departments as necessary acting as a liaison for department, media, and other departments.
8. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
HIGH SCHOOL INTERN
Must be of High School age 16 – 18. May be a graduating senior.
INTERN
High School Diploma or GED, and current enrollment in an accredited college, university, or technical school.
Class schedule, transcripts or other documents verifying enrollment must be submitted with application
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
4. Employee may be required to possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License while employed in this position.
5. May be required to work flexible hours (weekends and nights).
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. All essential duties are performed indoors.
2. Duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
3. Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile. Working surface is typically dry.
4. Successful program completion overseen by Intern Coordinator.
5. For Open Space Department Intern, essential duties may be performed indoors or outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
6. For Open Space Department Intern, works with close supervision and directions from Crew Leader and Project Coordinator.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties include telephone, photocopy machine, fax machine, typewriter, computer terminal, computer printer, computer keyboard, and calculator.
2. Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
3. For Open Space Department Intern, equipment typically used in the performance of duties can include but are not limited to shovels, hoes, rakes, pitchforks, pruning shears, and assorted hand tools used in the care and maintenance of growing spaces. Gloves, boots, and eye protection are utilized in performance of essential duties.
